Book Review: Feather Light by Lorenz Font

feather lightSynopsis: Parker Davis is the new ‘it’ man in massage. He earned the nickname ‘Feather Light’ for his sensual touches, tender caresses, and soft voice eliciting an almost orgasmic release. Business is at its peak, which makes Parker a busy man who has no time to deal with problems, let alone dwell on his blindness. With his declining vision, Parker has to accept his limitations and the changes brought forth by this disease, but he is not ready to relinquish the last control he has left. He is still the master in his bedroom.

Kelly Storm, a Hollywood actress, will do whatever it takes to get some much-deserved peace. Being famous has its perks, except the little privacy her popularity afforded her is slowly eating at her. With the paparazzi hounding her every minute of the day, and her personal life under constant scrutiny, Kelly wants a semblance of normalcy wherever she can get it. Under the urging of a close friend, she agrees give Parker a try.

Parker knows the woman on his table is special. He feels her vulnerability with his fingertips and her smooth curves leave a burning ache inside him. One night of steamy passion is all it takes to know that they wanted each other in more ways than one. Kelly hides in heavy disguises, making it impossible for Parker to know her true identity. What secret is Kelly keeping and will she trust Parker enough to tell him the truth? Will Parker see beyond Kelly’s lies to show her what a future with him holds?

Author:  Lorenz Font writes a variety of genres, including a paranormal trilogy—the first of which was her debut novel—and romantic thrillers. She has a full-time job as an office manager and lives in California with her family and two dogs.

Pacing: The story feels like it keeps skipping a few steps rather than a slow build, like it is getting ahead of itself. The novel has a similar experience of trying to follow someone in your car who does not use their blinkers and it takes you a moment to realize where you are supposed to be.

Location: The story takes place in numerous locations like Los Angeles, San Francisco, and New York City.

Plot: I love the idea of an actress changing her identity every time she goes for a massage, which is given by a man she is falling in love with. The fact she only goes for massages is disappointing as I was looking forward to crazy names and disguises in other locations.

Character: Parker has a degenerative disease called Retinitis Pigmentosa, which had been diagnosed three years prior and left him legally blind a year prior to the story. I can see how this experience would be difficult to adjust to and make it hard to trust people, particularly in a business setting.

Character Development: Both the main characters grew as people, but we did not really get to see this as it was happening. Instead those months were bypassed and the changes were merely mentioned later. I would have preferred to have seen this unfold as it is an integral part of the main characters getting their happily ever after.

Quote: This is going to be a little tricky. The blind leading the blind.

Verdict: This book is a decent read, but I did not feel it lived up to its potential. I would like to see the author actually do a rewrite to correct the inconsistencies and fill in the plot holes, then release the novel.
